Happy New Year 2013 Giveaway Hop

Happy New Year's! Are you excited about the upcoming new year! I am! I plan to spend some quality time with my family watch the Sci-Fi channel's Twilight Zone marathon.

As a way of saying thanks to all my readers, I'm participating in the Happy New Year 2013 Giveaway Hop and giving away some eBooks! I love a fun giveaway. You probably notice I do them a lot, huh? :D

Announcing the
Happy New Year 2013
Giveaway Hop

Hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer & Babs Book Bistro

January 1st - 7th 2013

I've got some fun prizes to ring in the New Year! Five copies of my latest eBook release (not connected to the Coveted series):

Werewolf Paranormal Romance Novella

Alpha wolf Emma Parker is loyal to a fault, even if it means losing the love of her life when he’s ousted from the pack. She’s never stopped needing him, and when a black witch curses the pack, she wonders if she’ll even survive. It’s a poison of the blood, and with each bite, the virus spreads, leaving the infected rabid and under the control of an evil Alpha.

Kyle Benton is starting over. He’s a lone wolf, betrayed by the only woman he’s ever loved. Until Emma barges back into his life, as gorgeous and determined as ever. He’s hell bent on resisting her, or at least making her suffer. But she needs him in a way that touches him to his very soul. Now he has to determine how to set her free, and if he can, how he can ever let her go.

Add BITTEN BY DECEIT to your Goodreads TBR or preview it on Amazon, iTunes, or B&N.

I'm also offering an eBook copy of my latest mass market release from Ballantine Books: Kept.

Coveted Series (Book #2)
Urban Fantasy Romance
Ballantine Books

Fresh from defending her pack in battle, Natalya Stravinsky, a whip-smart werewolf with a lovable neurotic streak, wants a little rest and relaxation. Once an outcast, she’s now eager to rejoin the ranks of her New Jersey pack, and has even gotten a handle on her obsessive urge to hoard holiday ornaments. Yet Nat barely has time to revel in her progress before the next crisis comes howling at her door.

Nat’s father has suddenly gone missing, captured by the Russian werewolf mafia. And as Nat steps up to save her dad from a mob boss’s deadly game, two men step in to play another round for her heart: her gorgeous alpha ex-boyfriend, Thorn, and her new flame, the sweetly sensitive wizard Nick. With her life growing more harried by the minute, Nat must stay cool, calm, and collected . . . or else risk losing everything.

Add KEPT to your Goodreads TBR or preview it on Amazon or B&N. Looking for a FREE read? Check out COLLECTED, the prequel to COVETED.

And finally, to one grand prize winner, they will get a $10 Bookstore giftcard and their choice of COVETED (Book #1), KEPT (Book #2), or BITTEN BY DECEIT. So a total of seven folks will walk away winners! Good luck! Happy New Year to you and yours!

Holiday Gifts of Love Blog Hop

First of all, thanks to Carrie Ann for holding such a fun blog hop! Be sure to stop by her site or check out the list below for more giveaways.

What do I love about December and holidays that come with it? To me, like my heroine Natalya, the holidays represent family. I have fond memories of traveling with my mother up to Iowa Falls, Iowa, to spend the holiday with extended family. I'd stay up late with my cousins and make Christmas sugar cookies--from scratch--with my aunt. Those were some good cookies too. I remember the layout of that house by heart. Where the tree always sat, what time we got up to open presents (too early), and even some of the presents I got. (I miss the My Little Pony I got the wings!)

To celebrate, I'd like for you to meet Natalya, my hoarding werewolf! I'm offering an eBook copy of my latest release (November 27th), Kept, from Ballantine Books to FIVE winners. If you haven't read Kept yet, I'll be more than happy the offer the winner a copy of the first book, Coveted.

Authors Against Bullying

When I got the email from Mandy Roth via Yasmine Galenorn about Authors Against Bullying, I couldn't wait to express my thoughts on the matter. I want to say point blank that bullying is wrong. It is a hurtful act that has a long term effect.

Sadly, I know what it feels like to be bullied and that's not a good thing to carry on your shoulders. When I'm with friends, I'm pretty easy-going and social, but in actuality, I've always been quiet and shy. Add on top of that I'm an awkward geek. My favorite place is working at home all alone--which doesn't make me an ideal person to plan a party. LOL Crawling into my shell and keeping quiet is easier that talking and having people judge me. Which shouldn't have to happen.

Over ten years ago, when I was in college, I cared about what everyone said I should look like, what I should say, and do. Even farther back in middle school, I was bullied from time to time. Now that I think about it, I didn't have the best fashion sense (in college, high school, or middle school), but I didn't deserve to feel left out or different. I've had people tell me I talked funny (I was from Iowa and lived in Florida for a period of time) and people said cruel things about my clothes. (Hey, I thought the leg warmers I had on were awesome.)

Memories can really suck. Especially when they are vivid. I remember how much it hurt and how I dreaded going back to school with kids who had pretty hair and nicer clothes than me. That nicer clothes thing never ended, even into college. As an adult, I've come to realize that there will always be someone who dresses better than me. The same pretty much applies for everyone. And it's okay! As long as you have a good attitude about the skin you're in, it's all good. I've met strangers who weren't in the latest designer duds and had more positive energy than some of the unfortunate folks who had plenty to say about the department store clothes I wore. I've had some wonderful friends who treated me well and I'll always remember them and smile. Wouldn't you like to be the person who does that for someone else? I'd like to be someone's good thought for the day. It's not that hard, either.

I actually had a woman say something interesting to me yesterday at the post office. She said, "You're so polite."
"Well, I want my children to be that way," I said. "I guess I should practice what I preach."
She just smiled at me and gave me my stamps. As I left the parking lot, I thought, Gee, she noticed how polite I was. Shouldn't everyone act that way? Does that mean people aren't even courteous anymore? To her?

It doesn't take a lot of work to not be a bully and I hope everyone who reads this will work today toward treating others with respect.

Another thing I want to add. If you have been bullied, I want you to know something cool I've learned: I don't worry about those things as much any more that bothered me when I was younger. Even though I encounter people every day who judge me, I see through a different set of eyes now. I finally realized that all the strangers outside of my door won't pay my bills, take care of my kids, or live my life for me. (Or back when I was kid, I should have seen that they weren't lining up to do my homework or my chores.) I don't need their opinions as a source of happiness. I should make my own. When something is about to bother me, I say to myself, "If someone has something foul to say about me, that's on them to work out. I have better things to do and they don't mind my business so why should I mind theirs?"

Over time, I've learned it's okay to be different. I've embraced my quirkiness and I've had so much fun doing it. I've learned to rise above other's people's negativity and you can too!

Visit more sites and show your support against bullying!

Be Mindful of What You Want to Collect

I'm pleased to announce I've released a prequel novella to Coveted called Collected. Be sure to check out what trouble Natalya got into before Thorn returned home. :)

Natalya Stravinsky, the charmingly neurotic werewolf from Coveted, is featured in this prequel novella. Before Thorn Grantham returned to South Toms River, New Jersey, Natalya lived alone with her stash of holiday trinkets. Her life takes an interesting turn when she faces a difficult challenge: to find a stolen figurine she’d recently won from a magical creatures auction website. It should be simple, just demand for it back from the pesky thief. But a set of events occurs that puts not only her life at risk, but her family’s as well.

Thank you, Paul Marron!

I got the coolest surprise today from a wonderful friend who gave me the ultimate hook up! She gave me a signed copy from the cover model, Paul Marron! Isn't it awesome? How she managed to get him to sign the darn thing, I do not want to speculate. He was probably doing what he always does--looking awesome--and she probably begged and did some elaborate, hypnotic dance. After that she probably told him how I'd blubber and repeat the words, "No way. No way. Are you serious? Are you for real? How did you get him to say yes? Umm, okay. No way! No way!"

I shall call it my precious and kick away the filthy hobbits who try to come near it!

Congrats to Cole Gibsen on KATANA!

Congratulations to my crit partner and good friend Cole Gibsen! I'm so proud of her accomplishments. I still remember the day when Sarah Bromley and I met Cole. She had such a positive attitude and passion for writing. All her work has paid off today with the release of her book KATANA!

I'm so proud of you, Cole! Congratulations on the release of your first book!

Kill Bill meets Buffy in this supernatural samurai tale

Rileigh Martin would love to believe that adrenaline gave her the uncanny courage and strength to fend off three muggers. But it doesn't explain her dreams of fifteenth century Japan, the incredible fighting skills she suddenly possesses, or the strange voice giving her battle tips and danger warnings. While worrying that she's going crazy (always a reputation ruiner), Rileigh gets a visit from Kim, a handsome martial arts instructor, who tells Rileigh she's harboring the spirit of a five-hundred-year-old samurai warrior.

Relentlessly attacked by ninjas, Rileigh has no choice but to master the katana--a deadly Japanese sword that's also the key to her past. As the spirit grows stronger and her feelings for Kim intensify, Rileigh is torn between continuing as the girl she's always been and embracing the warrior inside her.

February Updates

Happy Friday, everyone!

It has been a busy time for me! On top of writing I do freelance so I've barely had time do blog updates. Usually though, you can find me posting on Magic & Mayhem Writers or Wicked Authors.

So what's been going on?

  • I've just finalized the cover copy for KEPT, so that's rolling along. Copy edits should be knocking on my door pretty soon. I don't have a publication date yet for KEPT, but as soon as I get one, I'll be sure to update everyone.
  • On Monday, be sure to check out Wicked Authors, I'll have a contest coming up for some great historical romances I snagged.
  • Last weekend, I took my mom to her first book signing! It was great. We went to Rose's Bookhouse and she met Eileen Dreyer, Anya Bast, Heather Snow, and Patricia Rice. They are some great ladies! My giving away on Monday includes a signed book from Heather. ;)
  • I've got a new proposal cooking on the burner that I'm really excited about. If you've read the blurb for COVETED or read the excerpt (be sure to check it out), you know I always reach for something different so hopefully I'll get a chance to show what's cooking in the pot!
  • On Wednesday at Magic and Mayhem, I talked about my new toy, a Macbook. I'm still a PC gal--I can't run away from it in terms of development. The majority of the software I have is for the PC so I'm not a Mac convert or anything. I just need a machine for writing where I can avoid trouble. :)
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

New Year, Small Updates

It's been a few weeks since I've blogged. I've been a bit busy jumping back into the mix.

So, what's being going on?

  • I turned in a round of line edits for KEPT. Hopefully it will be all shiny soon.
  • I got a supa-awesome preview of the cover for KEPT and it is sooo good! Can't wait to reveal it.
  • Another quote came in for COVETED from the wonderful Ann Aguirre:

"If you like your urban fantasy original, quirky, and off-beat, this is the series for you. Natalya is the craziest heroine since Carolyn Crane's Justine Jones, and you will love her just as much."

  • With what little spare time I have, my book marks and romance trading cards are done! I can't wait to show them off. They are some cute little guys!
  • I signed up for Lori Foster's Reader and Author Get Together. If you plan on attending I'd love to see you there. That will be June 1st - 2nd in West Chester, Ohio.
  • The conference news keeps on getting better! I also plan to attend RWA (Anaheim, CA) and San Diego Comic Con in July! (Let the geekfest commenceth.)
  • I've got plans in the mix for a book launch event in San Antonio Texas so keep your ears open for more details as they come. =)
I'm super excited about the RT Convention coming in April in Chicago as well. I will definitely be doing a lot of travelling this year!
